About
One More Light is about seeing what remains after the obvious is gone.
My name is Lukas Mari. I am a documentary photographer based in Vienna, trained as a journalist.
I photograph the small moments between the sights: a man smoking in front of the pyramids, a lone figure in the Svalbard snow, a boy washing a car in Cairo at night. Nothing spectacular happens in these pictures. That is why I keep them.
I work slowly, in available light. Nothing is staged. The pictures come from Vienna and from further away: Egypt, India, New Zealand, the Arctic. Where they were taken matters less than what they hold.
In 2026 I self-published my first zine, Four Quiet Observations. Right now I am working on a photobook about Egypt: Cairo, the monuments, Luxor, seen through the people who live beside them.
I am available for editorial assignments and commissioned documentary work, in German and English. Work with me →
